PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 5, 2013) -- The Rutgers women’s outdoor track & field squad concluded the 2013 BIG EAST Championships at the Bauer Track & Field Complex on Sunday finishing in ninth place.
Notre Dame captured the title on the women’s side with 153 points followed by Connecticut in second with 102.75 points and South Florida in third with 97.75. The Scarlet Knights collected 56 points in their ninth place finish.
Three Scarlet Knights raced in Sunday’s finals action, all capturing ECAC qualifying times. In the 100m, junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) took third in a time of 11.66 with teammate sophomore Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) placing eighth with a finishing time of 11.95. The 200m saw redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) capture third place clocking in at 23.79, with Farquharson, in her second finals appearance of the day, taking seventh with her time of 24.16.
Both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams placed sixth in their respective races, both with ECAC qualifying marks. The 4x400 team of junior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), Tylia Gillon, Gabrielle Farquharson and Asha Ruth clocked in at 3:39.99, edged out of fifth place by just .07 seconds. The 4x800 squad of sophomore Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.), sophomore Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.), sophomore Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and junior Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) captured a time of 9:05.76.
The Rutgers women’s outdoor track & field team returns to action next weekend at the ECAC Championships on May 10-12 in Princeton, N.J.
