PRINCETON, NJ - In a three-team meet, the Rutgers women’s track and field team scored 63 points to come in second to Princeton (71), while St. John’s (45) took third at Jadwin Gym on the campus of Princeton on Jan. 10.
Junior Shameka Marshall (Mizpah, NJ) had an outstanding afternoon, winning the 60-meter dash in 7.73 to set a new school record. In addition, she also took the 60-meter hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 8.72 and took second in the 200 meters (26.87). Senior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) also had an excellent day as she won the 20-pound weight in an ECAC qualifying distance of 16.38m and took second in the shot put (12.99m) to senior teammate Kiara Adams (Westminster, MD), who registered a throw of 13.37m.
Freshman Ariel Brockman (Marlton, NJ) made a big splash in her collegiate debut by winning the 200 (26.80) and taking second to Marshall in the 60-meter dash (8.04). Another freshman, Natasha Norville (Somerset, NJ), won the 400 meters in 58.56. Senior Kerry Ann Mitchell (East Orange, NJ) was the final winner on the day for RU with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.70m in the high jump.
Several other Scarlet Knights scored high in the meet. Senior Amina Zohny
(Maplewood, NJ) took second in the 1000 meters (3:02.09), sophomore
Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) took second in the triple jump (11.11)
Candice Schultz (Beachwood, NJ) was third in the shot put (12.35m).
The team will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Penn State Invitational in University Park, PA. RESULTS
