    Asha Ruth Captures Third Fastest Time in RU History in 400m

    BRONX, N.Y.  (January 18, 2013) –  A new meet record by the 4x400 relay team and the third fastest time in Rutgers history in the 400m by redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) highlighted the Rutgers women’s indoor track and field results at the Great Dane Classic.

    The Scarlet Knights placed fifth in the 20 team field collecting 50.50 points.  Connecticut led the field with 126.50 points followed by host Albany (77.50) and Villanova (75).

    The Rutgers relay teams earned a pair of first place victories.  The 4x400 relay squad of junior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.), junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), and Ruth set a new Great Dane Classic meet record with a time of 3:45.58.  The distance medley team of sophomore Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.), sophomore Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.), senior Victoria Pontecoryo (Staten Island, N.Y.), and sophomore Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) also took home a first place time of 12:05.38.  Both relay teams ran to BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying times.

    Ruth, who helped the 4x400 relay team to first place, also had a pair of second place finishes.  Ruth collected the third fastest time in RU school history in the 400m in a time of 55.30 (BIG EAST & ECAC Qualifier).  She also took second in the long jump with a distance of 5.92 (BIG EAST & ECAC Qualifier).

    Other highlights from the meet include Gillon with a fourth place time in the 400m with a time of 56.85 (BIG EAST & ECAC Qualifier) and Hurrington taking sixth in the 500m crossing the finish line in a time of 1:16.00 (BIG EAST & ECAC Qualifier).  

    Additionally, sophomore Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.70m (BIG EAST & ECAC Qualifier).
