PRINCETON, N.J. (January 11, 2013) – Rutgers women’s indoor track and field team took third place at the quad meet featuring the Scarlet Knights, host Princeton, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s at Jadwin Gymnasium Friday evening.
The host Tigers picked up 187.50 points to win the meet followed by St. John’s in second with 126 points. Rutgers, with four first place finishes, took third with 121.50 points with St. Joseph’s in fourth with 88 points.
The Scarlet Knights took the top three positions in the long jump. Redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) won the event with a distance of 5.93m (BIG EAST Qualifier) followed by senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) in second with a jump of 5.71m (BIG EAST Qualifier), and sophomore Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) in third at 5.46m.
In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Kaprice James (Roselle, N.J.) logged the top time of 8.99 seconds (BIG EAST Qualifier) followed closely by sophomore Meagan Robinson (Burlington, N.J.) in second at 9.02 seconds (BIG EAST Qualifier), while the 60 meter dash saw junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) take home first place crossing the finish line with a time of 7.59 (BIG EAST Qualifier).
The 4x400 relay team of freshman Eleanor Clark (Camden, N.J.), Farquharson, Ruth, and junior Rachel Leeke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) captured first place to combine for a time of 3:35.78.
Additionally, junior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) placed second in the high jump with a distance of 1.67m.
The Rutgers women’s indoor track and field squad returns to action at the Great Dane Classic on Fri., Jan. 18 in the Bronx, N.Y.
