LONDON, England (August 7, 2012) – Former Rutgers women’s cross country and track & field standout Julie Culley qualified for the finals of the 5,000-meter run at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Culley, the U.S. Champion in the 5,000 at Olympic Trials, ran a personal-best time of 15:05.38 to place fifth out of 18 competitors. Culley will seek gold on Friday, Aug. 10 at 3:05 in Olympic Stadium.
Culley, who holds a school record (outdoor 5,000), was an NCAA qualifier in cross country while at Rutgers. In 2004, she was the recipient of the New Jersey's NCAA Woman of the Year Award, given to female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community service.
