PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 5, 2012) – Rutgers junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which opens on Wednesday, June 6, on the campus of Drake University.

    NCAA OUTDOOR T&F CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Ruth will take part in the women’s long jump on the second day of competition on Thursday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. (EST). She advanced to the NCAA Championships after finishing 11th at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday, May 24 with a leap of 20’3 ¾” (6.19m).

The performance comes after a stellar outdoor season in which Ruth won the individual title in the long jump at the BIG EAST Championships and placed second in the event at the ECAC Championships.

Ruth is the first Scarlet Knight on the women’s side to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championship since Shameka Marshall in 2005. Marshall, the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor long jump, earned All-America honors in 2006 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
