JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 24, 2012) – Rutgers junior long jumper Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) finished in the top-12 on the first day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship on Thursday, May 24, at Hodges Stadium on the campus of North Florida in Jacksonville.
With her performance, Ruth will advance to the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 6-9. The junior finished 11th in the long jump, recording a mark of 20’3 3/4” (6.19m) to qualify for the national meet. Ruth will return to action on Saturday for the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
Senior Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) advanced in the first round of the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 46.82 to move on to the quarterfinal race on Friday.
Rutgers will compete in four other events over the remaining two days of the NCAA East Preliminary Championship.
