Rutgers Women’s Track And Field Places Fourth At Colonial Relays
Scarlet Knights post victories in three events led by Ruth and Gillon

    WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 9, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s track and field team scored 76 points, finishing fourth at the 74th Annual Colonial Relays on Saturday, April 7, on the campus of William and Mary. The Scarlet Knights also sent several student-athletes to the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton on April 7.



    Rutgers took the top spot in three events at the Colonial Relay, highlighted by individual performances from sophomore Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) and junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.). Gillon won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85, while Ruth claimed a victory in the long jump, recording a leap of 20’8.25” (6.31m).

    The Scarlet Knights also won the 4x100-meter relay as Ruth, Gillon, Gabrielle Farqharson (Williamstown, N.J.) and Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) crossed the finish line first in 46.03.

    Adding to a strong meet performance, Ruth finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.31. Danai Lendor (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was runner up in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a second-place time of 1:03.01

    The Scarlet Knights added to their point total with second-place showings in a pair of relay events. In the 4x400-meter relay, RU finished second with Gillon, Farqharson, Hurrington and Rachel Leeke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) running a time of 3:45.28. Rutgers took second in the sprint medley as the group of Leeke, Ruth, Lendor and Jillian Grant (Matawan, N.J.) clocked a time of 4:04.85.

    Individually, Farqharson placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 24.33, while Meagan Robinson (Burlington, N.J.) took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.62.

    At the Sam Howell Invitational, senior Nwamaka Okobi (Freeport, N.Y.) finished second in the long jump, recording a leap of 19’2.5” (5.85m).

    Rutgers will return to action on Friday, April 13, for the Metropolitan Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on Livingston campus.
