BOSTON, Mass. (March 4, 2012) – Rutgers women’s track and field scored 34 points and placed fifth at the 2012 Indoor ECAC Championships on Sunday, March 4, at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center in Boston.
Cornell won the event with 55 points, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore (54), Princeton (45), Connecticut (36) and the Scarlet Knights.
Leading the pack for RU was sophomore sprinter Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), who won the 60-meter dash, running a time of 7.55 to earn her first ECAC title.
Senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) scored in both a track and field event, placing fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.30 and took fifth in the long jump, recording a leap of 19’2.75”.
Senior Nwamaka Okobi (Freeport, N.Y.) finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 40'7".
In the Distance Medley Relay, the Scarlet Knights placed fourth as Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.), Danai Lendor (Lawrenceville, N.J.), Lindsay Bertulis (Cedarville, N.J.) and Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) combined to run a time of 11:42.51.
Gillon and Ruth joined Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) and Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) in the 4 x 400-meter relay, clocking a time of 3:44.92 en route to a 4th-place showing.
