BRONX, N.Y. (February 6, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s track and field team turned in a couple standout performances at the 2012 New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4. RU established a pair of school records in the 4x200-meter relay and triple jump.
"We competed a few student-athletes at this competition, but we came out with some more BIG EAST qualifiers and two school records,” said head coach James Robinson. “We'll keep striving to perform at a high level every opportunity we get. We went into the competition this weekend with the goal of breaking the 4 x 200m Relay record and the ladies accomplished that goal. In addition, Nwamaka has continued her assault on the school record books, breaking her own mark in the triple jump for the third time this season."
The 4x200-meter relay team of Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) and Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) clocked a time of 1:38.32, en route to finishing fourth – breaking a three-year old school record. The previous record (1:40.88) was set on Feb. 9, 2008 at the same meet.
