PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 27, 2011) – Four former Rutgers women’s track and field standouts recently competed for the chance to represent their respective countries at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in August. Shameka Marshall, Julley Culley, and Jen Austin competed at the USA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., while Avonie Parchment ran at the Jamaican National Outdoor Championships in Kingston.
Marshall finished seventh out of 16 competitors in the long jump with a leap of 6.62 meters (21’ 8.75”). Culley, who ran the 5,000-meter, placed fifth out of 16 competitors with a personal best time of 15:21.18. Austin took 11th in a field of 15 as she threw the javelin 48.16 meters (158’). Parchment ran a personal best time of 1:00.88 in the 400-meter hurdles en route to a ninth-place showing.
