EWING, N.J. (May 2, 2011) – Rutgers women’s track and field team sent a select number of Scarlet Knights down the turnpike to compete at the TCNJ Lions Invitational this past weekend.
Freshman Emily Vargas (Clark, N.J.) led the Scarlet Knights with a first-place finish in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.63 meters while sophomore Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) finished right behind with a 5.56 meter jump to give Rutgers a 1-2 finish. Vargas also competed in the high jump, finishing second, clearing a height of 1.61 meters. In the triple jump, Ugboaja claimed first-place honors with a season-best jump of 11.93 meters.
Junior Danai Lendor (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was quick out of the blocks as she ran a season-best 1:01.58 in the 400-meter hurdles sealing a first-place finish while moving up to seventh in the BIG EAST rankings. Freshman Victoria Clark (Camden, N.J.) finished fourth with a time of 1:04.61. Freshman Rachel Leeke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ran a season-best 57.32 to finish third in the 400-meter dash.
In the field, senior Natalie Clickett (Union City, Pa.) had a season-best throw of 49.40 meters in the discus to claim first place while improving her to third on the BIG EAST rankings.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action Saturday, May 7, for the BIG EAST Championships in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
