  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers freshman sprinter Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) has been selected to attend the 2003 Pan American Junior Championships as part of the USA team. Eighty-eight track and field athletes will represent Team USA at the championships, held in Bridgetown, Barbados July 18-20.

    Westman was chosen to attend the competition as part of the pool of six athletes sent for the 4x400 meter relay team. The event will take place at the National Stadium at Waterford on Sunday, July 20 at 8:15 p.m.

    Westman placed fourth in the 400-meter dash at the 2003 Junior USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Palo Alto, CA, June 19-22. With his personal-best time of 47.32 in the 400m dash, Westman was honored as a 2003 Verizon Junior All-American.

    To reach the finals, Westman finished third in his heat in the 400m preliminary trials with a time of 47.47.
