FAIRFAX, VA -- After the first day of competition, with five scored events, the Rutgers men's track and field team is in fourth place with 13 points at the NCAA Regionals in Fairfax, VA. Sam Segond (East Stroudsberg, PA) led the men's team to fourth place, winning the men's discus event with a throw of 57.30 meters.
David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ) will compete in the 110 meter hurdles final at 6:30 p.m. after qualifying by placing eighth in the preliminaries (14.22). Anthony Butler (Pittsgrove, NJ) qualified in the high jump, placing sixth with a jump of 2.13 meters. Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) had a long jump mark of 6.98 meters to place 22nd.
The Scarlet Knight women are led by Jen Austin (Garfield, NJ), who placed eighth in the javelin competition with a throw of 44.00 meters. Melinda Foster (Barnegat, NJ) placed 13th in the same competition with a throw of 43.05 meters.
Shameka Marshall (Mizpah, NJ) placed 20th in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 14.6. Marshall also tied for 20th in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters. Danielle Hobson (West Orange, NJ) had a time of 59.25 in the 400 meter hurdles for seventh place. Sarah Beth Cullen (Red Bank, NJ) placed 23rd in the shot put with a mark of 13.50 meters.
Competition wraps up tomorrow, beginning at noon and ending at 9:30.
