RALEIGH, NC – The Rutgers men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in the first day of the Raleigh Relays today, hosted by North Carolina State on March 28-29, at NC State's Paul H. Derr Track. More than 3,000 athletes representing approximately 110 teams will compete.

Sam Segond (East Stoudsburg, PA), after redshirting for the indoor season, placed second in the discus throw with a mark of 53.49 meters. Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) had a 7.00 meter mark in the long jump for eighth place. In the 400-meter dash, Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) placed 15th (48.56), Luis Tomlinson (Willingboro, NJ) placed 61st (50.16) and Anthony Gallo (Wall, NJ) placed 66th (50.24). The men's 1600 sprint medley team placed 17th.

On the women's side, Kerry Ann Mitchell (East Orange, NJ) tied for fourth in high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters. Sarah Cullen (Red Bank, NJ) threw 13.80 meters for 10th place and Sophia Anderson (Brooklyn, NY) placed 32nd with a mark of 12.40 meters. Shameka Marshall (Mizpah, NJ) placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries (13.99 meters) and 12th in the long jump (5.72 meters).

Jamie Kerstetter (Monroe, NJ) placed 20th in the 5000 meter run in 18:47.27. Danielle Hobson (West Orange, NJ) placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with time of 1:01.36 and Chanelle Williams (Piscataway, NJ) placed 95th in the same event with a time of 1:14.02. Dominique Sanon (Bridgeport, CT) placed 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.12 and Jacqueline Todd (Willingboro, NJ) placed 39th in the same event (58.35).

The women's 4x1500 relay team placed ninth and the 1600 sprint medley team placed 17th. The Scarlet Knights had three people place in the 10000-meter run. Jane Albright (Basking Ridge, NJ) placed 27th with a time of 38:08.95, Holly Potts placed 38th with a time of 40:23.37 and Claire Tafelski (Westfield, NJ) placed 42nd with a time of 40:34.34.

The Scarlet Knights will continue competition in the Raleigh Relays tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. with the 3,000 meter steeplechase, men's hammer and men's javelin. All events on Saturday will be finals, including the 100, 200, 800, 1,500 and all relays and field events.
