NEW YORK, NY - The Rutgers men's indoor track and field team scored 134 points on its way to winning the fourth annual Great Dane Classic, hosted by the University at Albany. The Scarlet Knights competed among 15 teams on Friday, Jan. 20, at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.
RU finished ahead of host Albany, who took second place with 109 points, followed by Monmouth in third with 90.50 points.
The Scarlet Knights secured three first-place finishes and a total of 12 marks in the top-three at the Great Dane Classic.
On the track, senior Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) posted a first place finish in the 500 meter run, clocking a time of 1:03.26. Senior Tom Morley (Haddon Township, NJ) and sophomore Mike Snihur (Liverpool, NJ) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1,000m. Morley ran 2:30.17, followed by Snihur in 2:30.39. Junior Joe Porter (Franklin, NJ) also recorded a second-place mark, as the runner-up in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.55.
Other top marks on the track included third-place finishes by Porter in the 55m dash (6.43), junior Charles Simmons (Elizabeth, NJ) in the 400 (49.24) and senior Ambar Patel (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) in the mile run (4:15.98).
In the field events, senior All-American Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) won the long jump with a leap of 7.64m, while freshman Brian Duggan (Staten Island, NY) took first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.80 meters.
Senior All-American Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) finished second in both the shot put and weight. Segond threw the shot 17.98m and record a toss of 17.54m in the weight. Senior Rowan Clarke (Teaneck, NJ) finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.55 meters.
