PRINCETON, NJ – The Rutgers University men’s track and field team got its 2005-06 campaign off to a start, as they competed at the New Year’s Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, NJ.
Rutgers, the 2005 Indoor IC4A Champion, had several top performances including freshman Brian Duggan (Staten Island, NY), who won the pole vault with a mark of 16’, while All-Americans Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) and Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) also won their respective events. Allen finished first in the long jump with a leap of 24’ 1”, as Segond took the shot put title with a toss of 58’6 ½”.
Senior Ambar Patel (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) finished second in the 3,000m run in a time of 8:39.18, followed by junior Bill Hulbert (North Tonawanda, NY) in 8:43.43. Junior Paul Applegate (Beachwood, NJ) took third place in the shot put with a mark of 49’ 10” and junior Darryl Black (Voorhees, NJ) finished fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 6’8”.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Friday, Jan. 6, for the Fordham Invitational at the Lombardi Center in the Bronx, NY.
