  • SACRAMENTO, CA – Senior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) won his qualifying flight and advanced to the finals of the men’s discus at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Segond will compete in the championship round on Saturday, June 11 at the event, which will be held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, CA.

    Segond, a two-time All-American in the discus, posted the best mark in his flight with a throw of 193’ 4” on Thursday, June 9. Segond’s effort ranked as the fourth-best toss in the qualifying round.

    Segond has had an impressive outdoor season thus far, establishing meet and school records in the discus (199’ 2”) and shot put (61’ 8½”) at the 2005 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, in which he won both events, as well as being named the 2005 Mondo Mid-Atlantic Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year.

    Seniors Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) and Shameka Marshall (Mispah, NJ) concluded their outstanding outdoor seasons by participating in the finals of the men’s and women’s long jump.

    Allen, who was the 2005 BIG EAST and IC4A Outdoor Champion in the long jump, registered a mark of 23’ 8” to finish in 12th place out of a field of 26 competitors.

    Marshall, the 2005 BIG EAST and ECAC Outdoor Champion in both the long jump and 100-meter hurdles, recorded a leap of 19’ 10¼” to take 11th place among 24 participants. Marshall was also named the 2005 Mondo Mid-Atlantic Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year.
