PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rutgers University men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at the Penn Relays on Saturday, April 30 at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
For the men’s team, senior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) took second in the discus, setting a school record with his mark of 199’ 8½”. The 4x200m relay team of sophomores Rob Waters (Bellmawr, NJ) and Joe Porter (Somerset, NJ) and juniors Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) and Marcel Coleman (Harrisburg, PA) also posted a school record time, finishing second in their heat with a time of 1:24.41.
Waters, Porter, Coleman and senior David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ) qualified for the IC4A finals in the 4x100m relay, finishing first in their section with a time of 40.88. Junior Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) took ninth in the championship section of the long jump, leaping 23’ 7½”.
On the women’s side, junior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) finished second in shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 46’ 5½”, while junior Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) took fourth in the Eastern division of the long jump with a leap of 39’ 7¾”, qualifying her for the ECAC postseason meet.
Rutgers also received a strong performance from its 4x800m relay team. Freshmen Alisa Budd (Toms River, NJ) and Alexis Gray (Toms River, NJ), senior Amonica Phipps (Amherst, VA) and graduate student Julie Delimon (Stanhope, NJ) won their section with in 8:56.68, an ECAC qualifier.
The Scarlet Knights will return to the track this weekend when they host the 2005 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex Friday, May 6, through Sunday, May 8.
