PRINCETON, NJ – Sophomore Rob Waters (Bellmawr, NJ) and senior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) each recorded two first-place marks, as the Rutgers University men’s track and field team earned a total of 11 top-three finishes at the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday, April 9, in Princeton, NJ.
Waters took the overall title in the 200m dash, posting an IC4A time of 21.25, followed by junior Marcel Coleman (Harrisburg, PA) in second (21.53, IC4A). Waters also won the 400m and qualified for postseason, clocking a time of 48.37, while junior Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) took second in 48.37. Coleman also posted an IC4A qualifying time in the 100m dash with his second place finish (10.72).
Senior David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ) won the 110m hurdles with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 14.03. Klics also ran 54.16 to finish second in the 400m hurdles.
In the field events, Segond won the discus with an NCAA regional mark of 187’ 5” and took first in the shot put with a throw of 59’ 11”, while junior Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) placed first in the long jump, leaping 24’ 6½”.
The men’s team will be back in action on Friday, April 15 at the Virginia Invitaitonal in Charlottesville, VA.
