Segond Leads Men's Track and Field at Quaker Invitational

  • PHILADELPHIA, PA – Senior All-American Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA), swept the three throws events in which he competed to lead the Rutgers men’s and track and field team at the Quaker Invitational on Saturday, March 26, at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

    Segond posted NCAA regional and BIG EAST qualifying marks in both the shot put (56’ 6 ¾”) and discus (179’ 7”) and qualified for the BIG EAST in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 150’ 8”. Sophomore Paul Applegate (Beachwood, NJ) finished in second place behind Segond in the shot put (48’ 11” BE qualifier), discus (136’ 7”) and hammer (143’ 11” BE qualifier).

    Other top finishes for RU included sophomore Neil Ambrus (Shamong, NJ), who won the 400m hurdles with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 54.75. Junior Ambar Patel (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) placed second in the 5,000m with a time of 15:14.15, while freshman Jamal Ames (Vineland, NJ) took second in the high jump with a leap of 6’0”. Ames also finished third in the long jump (20’ ¼”) and fourth in the 110m hurdles (16.43).

    The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 2, at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, MD.
