BRONX, NY – The Rutgers men’s track and field team scored 159 points and finished behind Manhattan for second place at the annual Met Championships. Manhattan won the event with 177 points, and Rutgers finished 64 points ahead of Seton Hall.
Sophomore Joe Porter (Franklin, NJ) was second in the 60-meter dash (6.87) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.68), behind teammate Rob Waters (Bellmawr, NJ) (21.27). In the 400-meter dash, senior Lou Tomlinson (Willingboro, NJ) had a second-place showing (49.33) while Ryan Westerman (Cynwyd, PA) was second in the 500-meter dash (1:03.86).
Senior Mike Redden (South Orange, NJ) was victorious in the 800-meters, clocking a winning time of 1:53.83. In the 1,000-meters, junior Tom Morley (Haddon Township, NJ) won the event in 2:27.69.
In the long jump, junior Kevin Chan (Wilton, CT) finished in second place (23-1¼) while senior Lonnie Washington (Elizabeth, NJ) was second in the high jump (6-7). Senior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) won the shot put (59-5.5) and senior Dustin Runkle (Fort Wayne, IN) claimed top honors in the pole vault (15-3).
Rutgers returns to action Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Boston Invitational in Boston, MA.
