UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Rutgers men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at Penn State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 15 in University Park, PA. Nine collegiate teams participated in the non-scoring event.
On the men’s side, the 4x400 relay team of senior Luis Tomlinson (Willingboro, NJ), junior Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) and sophomores Rob Waters (Bellmawr, NJ) and Joe Porter (Franklin Park, NJ) took first place with a time of 3:13.28. Porter and Waters finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 60 meter dash. Porter crossed the finish line in 6.89, followed by Waters in 6.91. The Scarlet Knights also received a first-place finish from senior Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) in the shot put. Segond recorded a throw of 54’ 11¼”, while sophomore Paul Applegate (Beachwood, PA) took fourth with a toss of 52’10”.
In other field events, junior Rowan Clarke (Teaneck, NJ) took second place in the triple jump (47’5 ¼”), followed by junior Gary Peters (Bronx, NY) in fourth place (46’11”). Senior Lonnie Washington (Elizabeth, NJ) tied for third place in the high jump with a leap of 6’7”.
The women’s team was led by senior Shameka Marshall (Mispah, NJ), who won the 60 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.71. Marshall also took first in the long jump, leaping 19’8”. In the triple jump, junior Kahimah Liverman (Paterson, NJ) finished in second place with a jump of 38’6 ¾” and junior Cycerli Ash (Beach Lake, PA) took third place in the shot put with a toss of 45’4 ½”.
The Scarlet Knights return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 22, when they will travel to Princeton, NJ to participate in the Princeton Relays
