PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University men’s track and field team, fresh off its impressive second place finish at the IC4A Championships this past weekend at Yale University, will send 11 athletes to the NCAA Regionals in Gainesville, FL this weekend.
Out of 117 teams in the East Region, Rutgers’ 4x100 relay team that includes David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ), Marcel Coleman (Harrisburg, PA), Robert Waters (Bellmawr, NJ) and Joe Porter (Franklin, NJ), is ranked fifth in the region. Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) enters the NCAA Regionals ranked second in the region in the discus and third in the shot put. In addition, Anthony Butler (Pittsgrove, NJ) and Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) are also ranked in the top 15 in the region in the high jump and the long jump, respectively.
Also qualifying for the NCAA Regionals were Waters in the 100 and 200 meters, Klics in the 110 high hurdles, and Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) in the 400 meter run. In addition, the Scarlet Knights qualified three athletes in the javelin in Christian Francisco (Bloomfield, NJ), Brian Lee (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Ian Meneswich (Laurel Springs, NJ).
The Scarlet Knights, who were just 1.25 points behind the first place United States Military Academy in the IC4A’s , posted their best finish ever in this prestigious event. Rutgers’ previous best finish was third place in 2003.
