PHILADELPHIA, PA - Rutgers junior All-American Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) finished second in the discus championship at the 110th running of the Penn Relays on April 23, in Philadelphia, PA.
Segond’s throw of 58.85 meters earned him second-place honors at the meet. He also competed in the shot put championship and took sixth overall (17.59m). Segond set the school record in the shot put just one week ago.
The Scarlet Knights also had a strong showing in the college men’s Eastern pole vault event. Senior Dustin Runkle (Fort Wayne, IN) took first (4.75m), while senior teammate Lloyd Nolan (Bronx, NY) finished fifth (4.60m).
The 4x200 team of freshman Rob Waters (Bellmawr, NJ), junior David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ), sophomore Marcel Coleman (Harrisburg, PA) and sophomore Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) finished fifth in their heat with a time 1:30.54. Klics also competed in the 100 high hurdles, taking fourth (14.20) in his heat.
In the RU’ final event of the day, the team of Westman, Waters, Coleman and junior Trevor O’Grady (Wood Ridge, NJ) took second (3:13.95) in the NY Metropolitan 4x400 meter relay.
Rutgers will finish competition at the Penn Relays tomorrow, Saturday, April 24.
