  • PISCATAWAY, N.J.  (July 24, 2014) –  The Rutgers men’s outdoor track and program continued to be recognized for its academic excellence by earning the Team Academic Excellence Award for having the highest collective grade-point averages in their sports in the American Athletic Conference last season.

The winners were chosen based on the 2013-14 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.

The Team Academic Excellence Award is one of several academic honors the Rutgers men’s track & field program has received in recent days.

Former Scarlet Knight Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) and rising senior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were among the Division I men’s track and field student-athletes named All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), both having compiled a grade point averages over a 3.25.

Rutgers also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors after achieving a 3.13 grade point average for the academic year.

The Scarlet Knights finished last outdoor season ranked ninth in the final U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll and earned a total of five medals and 11 additional top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Rutgers also sent seven Scarlet Knights to the NCAA East Regional.

Rising redshirt senior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) leapt his way to the American outdoor title in the long jump and a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships.  Rising junior Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) also collected his second straight conference title with a gold medal performance in the javelin.

Other conference medalists at last season’s conference championships included a silver by RU’s 4x400 relay team and bronze by 4x200 relay team and rising sophomore Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) in the 400m.
