Carr, Crawford to Compete at USA Track & Field Outdoor Nationals

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 24, 2014) – Rutgers’ American Athletic Conference champions Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) and sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) will be compete at USA Track & Field’s Outdoor Nationals in Sacramento, California this weekend.

    Both will compete on Sunday, June 29 with Carr going after the javelin title at noon (PST) and Crawford competing in the long jump at 12:15 p.m. (PST). The field events will be aired on USATF.tv. 

    Carr was the 2013 BIG EAST and 2014 American Athletic Conference champion in the javelin.  This past outdoor season, he took sixth at the IC4A Championships at a distance of 64.49m (211’ 7”) and posted a personal best in taking second at Penn Relays at 71.51m (234’ 7”). He entered the NCAA East Regional ranked 16th among Division I javelin throwers and 12th in the East Region.

    Crawford is a two-time All-American in the long jump and was the first Scarlet Knight to receive Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year honors for both the indoor and outdoor season seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He was the NCAA runner-up during the indoor season and placed seventh at the outdoor championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon earlier this month.

    Entering the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Crawford was seeded second and ranked eighth among his NCAA Division I competitors. He had broken the Rutgers school long jump record twice during the course of the outdoor season setting a new Rutgers benchmark with a leap of 7.91m (25’ 11 ½”) in capturing in the IC4A title.

    Prior to the NCAA Indoor Championships, Crawford posted a mark of 8.22m (26’ 11 ¾”) in the long jump, a distance that had topped NCAA charts, was tied for fifth in the world and tied for the best among all American jumpers during the indoor season.
