PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 10, 2014) – Rutgers redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) will compete for the NCAA outdoor long jump title on Thursday night at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The event is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. (EST).
Crawford became the first Scarlet Knight to receive Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year honors for both the indoor and outdoor seasons by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The national indoor runner-up in the long jump, Crawford enters Thursday’s NCAA Championship as the second seed after taking second at the NCAA East Regional at a distance of 7.77m (25’ 6”).
Crawford currently ranks eighth in the country and twice this outdoor season has broken the school record. The American Athletic Conference champion, he most recently broke the Rutgers benchmark with a leap of 7.91m (25’ 11 ½”) in capturing in the IC4A title. He first broke the RU school record in his first place Penn Relays performance at 7.90m (25’ 11”).
The Scarlet Knight also brought home long jump titles at the Georgia Spec Towns Invitational and the Colonial Relays.
