PRINCETON, N.J. (May 17, 2014) –  Rutgers took the top two spots in the long jump, including redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) taking home the title with a new school record, to highlight Saturday’s action at the IC4A Championships.

Crawford reset the RU benchmark in the long jump for a second time this outdoor season as he reached 7.91m (25’ 11 ½”), besting his previous record by .01m from the Penn Relays in late April.

Teammate Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) finished behind Crawford in second place, leaping to a mark of 7.65m (25’ 1 ¼”) for a new personal best.  The sophomore Scarlet Knight shattered his previous personal record in the long jump by .40m, resetting his mark of 7.25m from his freshman season at the Gotham Cup during the indoor season.

Also adding to the Scarlet Knights point total was senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) in the pole vault. Wyckoff cleared the bar at 4.95m (16’ 2 ¾”) for sixth place.

On the track, RU’s 4x800 relay team advanced to Sunday’s final after taking eighth in preliminaries. The team of  junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) and seniors Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.), Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.) and Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) finished with their best time of  the season in 7:39.37.

Freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 400m finals. Griffith came in ninth in 47.80, which was .03 seconds away from the final qualifying position. Junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed 13th in the 400m preliminaries in 48.20.

The IC4A Championships wrap up on Sunday at Princeton’s Weaver Track and Field Stadium.
