Men’s Track and Field to Compete at IC4A Championships

    PISACATAWAY, N.J. (May 14, 2014) –  The Rutgers men’s outdoor track & field team will compete at the IC4A Championships held at Princeton University’s William Weaver Track & Field Stadium on Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18.

    Last year, Rutgers finished sixth at the IC4A Championships. The event was highlighted by former Scarlet Knights James Plummer capturing the discus title, along with second place finishes for redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) in the long jump (7.42m) and the 4x800 relay team.. The relay team included current Scarlet Knight senior Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.), junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.), and senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.), who clocked in at 7:35.76 for the runner-up spot.  Additionally, senior Chris Wyckoff  (Toms River, N.J.) took fourth in the in the pole vault (5.15m) and sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) placed seventh in the javelin (63.73m).

    RU is coming off a performance in the AAC Championships in which they medaled five times, captured two event titles and placed sixth overall as a team.  Carr won his second consecutive javelin title at a distance of 60.90, while Crawford took first in the long jump at 7.58m. The 4x400 relay team of sophomore Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), Crawford, sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) and freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.)  took home a silver medal while Griffith  in the 400m and the 4x100 relay team  of junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Dunbar, Jordan and Crawford came away with a bronze.

    The Scarlet Knights currently have two athletes that are among the nation’s best. Carr had a 71.51m javelin throw at the Penn Relays which is good for thirteenth in the nation. Crawford is currently fifth in the nation with a school record jump of 7.90m at the Penn Relays. 

    Following the IC4A Championships, Rutgers men’s track and field will be the NCAA East Regionals on May 29 and May 30  in Jacksonville, Fla.
