WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 6, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s outdoor track and field team took second at the 2014 Colonial Relays notching nine IC4A qualifying marks, including first place performances by the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) winning the 400m and senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) taking home the pole vault title.
Bucknell took the Colonial Relay title with 101.20 points followed by the Scarlet Knights with 87.20 points. Virginia Tech placed third collecting 74 points.
The 4x100 relay team, consisting of Griffith, sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.), junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) posted RU’s top time in the event thus far this season. The team took first with a time of 41.56, beating out second place Pierce Track Club Elite by .03 seconds
Same the quartet also gave RU a second title in the 4x400. Again, the squad raced to the best time of the outdoor season, posting a time of 3:12.18.
Griffith added another title for the Scarlet Knights in recording his best time of the season in taking home the 400m crown. He clocked in at 47.70 and finished .23 seconds ahead of second place. Teammate Jordan, meanwhile, took fifth in the event with an IC4A qualifying time of 49.50.
Also brining home IC4A qualifying times were Crawford in the 100m and senior Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) in the 5000m. Crawford logged a time of 10.85 in the 100m, his best time this season. Banafato placed 11th in the University Seeded Division of the 1500m, racing to a personal best of 14:31.61.
In the field, Wyckoff led the Scarlet Knights by clearing 5.10m in the pole vault and was the only competitor to reach over 5m.
Sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) and freshman Matthew Krezmer (Montoursville, Pa.) both captured IC4A qualifying throws in the javelin. Carr placed second with his distance of 69.98m, while Krezmer finished in sixth at 60.93m.
RU also got a top five finish from Bryan Pearson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) in the discus at distance of 46.93m.
The Rutgers men’s outdoor track and field team returns to action next weekend at the Spec Towns Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia.
