    RICHMOND, Va.  (March 29, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s outdoor track and field team had 18 top 10 placements and three IC4A qualifying marks, including a first place finish by sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) in the javelin, at the Fred Hardy Invitational this weekend hosted by the University of Richmond.

    Carr, last week’s American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week,  threw for a distance of 67.32m and was .04m off the meet record.

    Also earning IC4A qualifying marks were senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) in the pole vault and freshman Bryan Pearson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) in the discus. Wyckoff cleared a height of 5.10m for second place in the pole vault. Pearson, meanwhile, threw for a distance of 48.61m in the discus to finish fourth.

    Other top performances by the Scarlet Knights on the track included the 4x800 relay team of freshman Sam Habib (Old Bridge, N.J), freshman Brendan Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, N.J.), freshman Nick Price (Old Bridge, N.J.) and sophomore Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) taking third in 8:01.86,  sophomore Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) placing fourth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.71 and freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) taking fifth in the 400m with his time of 49.58.

    Other notable field finishes for RU included top five placements in the javelin, high jump and triple jump.  Behind Carr in the javelin results was freshman Matthew Krezmer (Montoursville, N.J.) in third at a distance of 56.83m.  Sophomores Ryan North (Mayetta, N.J.) and Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) finished in third and fourth respectively in the long jump. North reached a distance of 14.35m followed by Eze at 14.24m.  North also placed fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.88m.

    The Rutgers men’s track and field team returns to action the Florida Relays on Thursday, April 3 as well as at the Colonial Relays on April 4-5.
