PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 27, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s outdoor track and field team head to Richmond, Va. for the Fred Hardy Invitational. The meet is set to take place Friday, Mar. 28 and Saturday, Mar. 29.
The Scarlet Knights opened the outdoor season at the Bulls Invitational, claiming the titles in the javelin and hurdle events.
Rutgers top performances of the meet included sophomores Alex Malveaux (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) sweeping the hurdle events. Malveaux earned the title in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.95, while Holder topped the 400m hurdles with a time of 55:04.
In the javelin event, sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) and Matthew Krezmer (Montoursville, Pa.) captured the top two spots. Carr recorded a throw distance of 68.42m to grab the title, earning American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week. Krezmer recorded a 63.95m to finish in second place for RU.
Last season at the Fred Hardy Invite, Rutgers recorded seven top-five finishes in the meet. In the 3000m, junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) took first place finishing with a time of 8:28.
In the field events, senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) captured a first place finish in the pole vault, clearing the bar with a height of 5.00m. Sophomore AJ Vance (Egg Harbor Twp,, N.J.) took third in the high jump leaping to 2.01m.
After the stop in Virginia, Rutgers will travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the Florida Relays on Thursday, April 3 and to Williamsburg, Va. For the Colonial Relays April 4-5
