Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Season Kicks Off at Bulls Invitational

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 19, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s track and field program will once again kickoff the outdoor season by traveling to the Bulls Invitational hosted by USF on Friday, March 21.

    The Scarlet Knights are coming off an indoor season that saw Rutgers take second at the 2014 Metropolitan Championships and place sixth at the American Athletic Conference Championships. 

    Highlighting the indoor season was redshirt junior Corey Crawford’s (Oakland, N.J.) national runner-up performance in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and his gold medal long jump at the American Champions at 8.22m, which is currently tied for sixth in the world.

    Other notable indoor performances included American Championships finals appearance by junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the 200m (22.02) and 400m (48.17).  Jordan brought home the silver in the 400m at the conference championships, as did teammate Crawford in the high jump (2.09m).  Additionally, junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) reached the finals of the mile. 

    At the Metropolitan Indoor Championships, Jordan won titles in the 200m and 400m. Jordan, who repeated a the Metropolitan champion in the 400m (48.39), joined sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) in going one-two in the 200m.  RU captured a third title at the Mets with senior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.), sophomore Calvin Knox (Oakland, N.J.),  senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) and DeFabio winning the 4x800 relay (7:51.84). 

    Last season, the Scarlet Knights racked up seven BIG EAST and IC4A qualification times and results at the Bulls Invite, their first outdoor event of the 2013 campaign.

    In the 200m, Dunbar raced to a fourth place finish (21.68) followed by junior Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) in fifth (21.72).  Douse also took sixth in the 100m (10.70).

    In the relays, the 4x100 team of sophomore Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), Jordan, Dunbar and Crawford ran 41.90 for third place. 

    In the field events, Rutgers saw a second place finish by sophomore Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) in the javelin (60.91m) and Crawford place fourth in the long jump (6.84m).

    Following this weekend’s trip to Florida, the Rutgers men’s outdoor track and field team will head to the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va. beginning on Friday, March. 28.
