PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 11, 2014) – Rutgers redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) was named the Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year, it was announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The American Athletic Conference American Field Athlete of the Year, Crawford is the top-ranked long jumper heading into this week’s NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. At the conference championships, Crawford reached a distance of 8.22m (26’11.75”), a mark that not only tops the NCAA charts this season, but is currently tied for fifth in the world and tied for the best among American jumpers this indoor season.
In addition, to his gold medal in the long jump at the American Championships, Crawford earned a silver as the runner-up in the high jump, an event he had not competed in since high school.
Crawford will compete on Friday, March 14 at 8 p.m. (ET) at the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ESPN3 will stream the meet live and a tape delay of the championship will air on Saturday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
