Crawford Named American Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Track Athlete

    BRONX, N.Y.  (March 1, 2014) – Rutgers redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) was named the 2014 Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete as action wrapped up at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory on Saturday.

    Crawford took the American long jump title on Friday with a nation-leading distance of 8.22m (26'-11.75"). That distance is currently ranked third in the world. Crawford also made an appearance in the high jump for the first time since high school, and clinched silver in the process with a height of 2.09m (6'-10.25").

    Junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was in a pair of finals on Saturday and was the runner-up in the 400m.  Jordan clocked in at 48.17 to claim silver in the 400m, while he placed eighth in the 200m with a time of 22.02.

    Junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) was also in finals action taking sixth in the mile.  DeFabio raced to a personal best of 4:13.67.

    After two days of competition, the Rutgers men’s indoor track & field team concluded the conference championships in sixth place.  Connecticut won the 2014 men’s indoor title.

    The Rutgers men’s indoor track and field team returns to action at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass beginning on Friday, March 7.
