PISCATAWAY, N.J.  (January 9, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s indoor track and field team returns to action this weekend in its lone home meet of the season.  The Scarlet Knights host the Rutgers Invitational at the Busch Bubble on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11.  The meet begins at 11 a.m. on both days.

Joining RU in the competition will be student-athletes from St. Peter’s, Temple, CCNY and Villanova. This weekend marks the second meet of the indoor season for the Scarlet Knights as they return to the track after several top performances at the New Year’s Invitational at Princeton in early December.

Rutgers had 11 top five finishes at the New Year’s Invite highlighted by redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) in the long jump.  Crawford’s jump of 7.79m is currently second in the nation and reset the school record.

Other notable field performances from RU’s last outing included a third place finish by sophomore Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) in the long jump (7.15m), sophomore Ryan North (Mayetta, N.J.) taking third in the high jump (1.98m), followed by teammate AJ Vance (Egg Harbor, Township, N.J.) in fourth (1.93m) and freshman Bryan Pearson (Mt. Bethel, Pa.) coming in fourth in the shot put (15.46m).

On the track, Rutgers was led by a second place performance by senior Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) in the 600m (1:21.58), while in the 300m junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.J.)  captured a third place result (35.16), followed by sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) crossing behind in fourth (35.21).

Rutgers had a pair of Scarlet Knights in the finals of the 60m hurdles with junior Mike Fritz (Whippany, N.J.) claiming fourth place (8.65) and freshman Brennan Crowle (Endwell, N.Y.) logging fifth place (8.68).

In the relays, RU’s 4x400 team of Caidenhead, junior Kevin Condal (Hasbrouk Heights, N.J.), junior Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) and Dunbar collectively took fourth place (3:26.78).

Following this weekend’s meet, the Rutgers men’s indoor track & field team will return to action at the Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 17.
