PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 6, 2013) -- The Rutgers men's indoor track & field team kicks off the 2013-14 season on Saturday at the New Year's Invitational held at Jadwin Gymnasium on the campus of Princeton. Competition begins at 11 a.m.
Rutgers will be among nine schools participating at the meet joining Bryn Mawr, Georgian Court, Johns Hopkins, Messiah, Morgan State, Rider and Towson along with host Princeton. Athletes from various track clubs will also be competing.
Last season, the Scarlet Knights registered several notable performances.
Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) won the long jump, while teammate Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) placed third. Crawford's distance of 7.60m in the event was tops in the country during the early portion of the indoor season.
In the 200m, D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) raced to a second place time with Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) in fourth Additionally, Kadem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) logged second in the 60 meter dash and Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) took third in the 600m.
The 4x400 relay team of former Scarlet Knight Monroe Kearns, along with Purcell, Calvin Knox (Oakland, N.J), and Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) placed third.
