PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 11, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams were recognized by the NCAA on Tuesday for their academic success in the release of the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
Both the RU men’s indoor and outdoor programs boasted a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2011-12 academic year.
“Cross country and track are unique in that they go from September all the way to June,” said men’s track and field coach Mike Mulqueen, whose men’s cross country squad also earned a score of 1,000 for the 2011-12 academic year, “so it’s a great testament to our athletes putting the ‘student’ in student-athlete all year round. It’s a great reflection of our academic advising staff, including Monique Brown. Rutgers’ whole philosophy of great academics and great athletes is really at the forefront. Our teams really want to be the best they can be and take advantage of getting a Rutgers degree.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
Rutgers’ men’s track & field teams have received All-Academic honors by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the last five consecutive seasons.
