    DAY ONE RESULTS

    PISCATAWAY, N.J.  (May 3, 2013) --  The Rutgers men’s and women’s track & field teams kicked off the 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at the Bauer Track & Field Complex on Friday with sophomore Mike Fritz (Whippany, N.J.) in the decathlon and junior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) in the heptathlon.

    Bradley currently sits in eighth place in the heptathlon through four events – 100m hurdles, shot put, high jump and 200m - with 2726 points.  Carly Loeffel of Notre Dame leads all competitors with 3322 points followed by Elizabeth Kline of Pittsburgh in second with 3270 points and Saija Bikanova of Connecticut in third with 3164 points.

    The junior Scarlet Knight tied for third in the high jump with a height of 1.66m.  Bradley also placed sixth in the 200m (26.83), seventh in the 100m hurdles (15.90), 10th in the shot put (9.05m).  She will conclude the heptathlon tomorrow with the long jump, javelin and 800m.

    Fritz meanwhile stands in fifth in the decathlon following day one action in the 100m, long jump, shot put, and 400m with 3624 points.  Ted Glasnow of Notre Dame leads the pack with 3813, followed by Jake Waruch of Connecticut in second with 3800 points and fellow Husky Jesse Chapman in third with 3724 points.

    Fritz took second in the long jump reaching the distance of 6.77m on his second attempt and missing on first place by .01m.  Additionally he placed third in the 100m racing to a time of 11.14, fifth in the 400m (51.34), sixth in the shot put (12.49m) and eighth in the high jump (1.82m)

    Action continues on Saturday and Sunday at the Bauer Track & Field Complex at Rutgers.  Admission in $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for children under 18 and senior, while BIG EAST students with ID and children under five are free. Parking – available in either the Green or Yellow lot via the Suttons Lane entrance to Hospital Road – is free.

    Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m. and will include the conclusion of both the heptathlon and decathlon along with the shot put, long jump, javelin, steeplechase, 10,000m, women’s pole vault, and men’s high jump.  Trials in the 1,500m, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m hurdles 200m, women’s 100m hurdles, and men’s 110m hurdles will also be run.

    FROM ROUTE 18 NORTH:
    Exit for Livingston Campus/Metlars Lane
    Continue straight through traffic light onto Metlars Lane
    Take right at traffic light onto Suttons Lane
    Make first right onto Hospital Road
    Green and Yellow Lots located on left before the RAC
