Scarlet Knights Take First in Pole Vault, Long Jump and Discus

    Senior Chris Wyckoff captured first place in the pole vault.

    ATHENS, Ga. (April 13, 2013) --  The Rutgers men’s track and field team took first place in the pole vault, long jump and discus to highlight results from the Georgia Spec Towns National Invitational this weekend.

    Senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.), who last week claimed the pole vault title at the Colonial Relays, cleared the bar at 4.90m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) for another first place finish.

    Two-time BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.), continued his impressive spring with another first place discus showing throwing for a distance of 58.89m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).

    RU also garnered a first place finish from redshirt sophomore Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) in the long jump with a distance of 7.53m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).

    In other field events, freshman Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) logged a fourth place finish in the javelin at 58.57m (BIG EAST Qualifier), senior Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) placed fifth in the high jump at a height of 2.05m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) and senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.), last week’s BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, took fifth in the triple jump at a distance of 15.00m  (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).

    Several other Scarlet Knights were in action at the Rider Invitational with RU taking the top positions in both the pole vault and high jump.

    Senior Pat Gray (East Windsor, N.J.) reached a height of 4.35m to claim the pole vault title, while senior Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, N.J.) cleared the bar at 1.94 in the high jump for the top spot.  Additionally, freshman AJ Vance (Egg Harbor Twp, N.J.) took second in the high jump at 1.89m.

    Other notable performances include a third place time of 10:19.86 in the 3000m steeplechase by senior Tom Bragen (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and a third place finish of 4:00.78 in the 1500m by junior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.).

    The Rutgers men’s track and field team returns to action at the Larry Ellis Invitational Fri.-Sat. April 19-20 in Princeton, N.J.
