BRONX, N.Y. (January 12, 2013) – Freshman Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) and senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) each took first place in the long jump and shot put respectively highlighting action by the Rutgers men’s indoor track and field team at the NYC Gotham Cup at the Armory on Friday evening.
Eze jumped to a distance of 7.25m (BIG EAST qualifier) in the long jump for the top position in the event, while Plummer threw to distance of 16.70m (BIG EAST qualifier) for first place in the shot put.
Eze later placed third in 60 meter dash logging a time of 6.93 seconds (BIG EAST qualifier).
In other track events, the 4x800 relay squad of junior Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.), junior Steve Burholder (Marlton, N.J.), sophomore Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.), and junior Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) teamed for a third place time of 7:58.
Other top field finishes included Plummer with a fourth place finish in the 35 lbs. weight throw with a distance of 17.03m (BIG EAST qualifier) and senior Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) and senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) taking third and fourth respectively in the high jump with heights of 2.06m (BIG EAST qualifier).
The Rutgers men’s indoor track and field squad returns to action on Fri., Jan. 18 at the Great Dane Invitational in the Bronx, N.Y.
