NEW ORLEANS, La. (July 26, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team was honored for its academic achievement, earning selection to the All-Academic Track and Field Team, announced by U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). It was the fifth consecutive honor for the Scarlet Knights.
Additionally, Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.), a recent graduate with a degree in economics, was named to the individual All-Academic Team.
“This is a big honor and a great reflection on the work our student athletes put into their academics,” said head men’s track and field coach Mike Mulqueen. “It also shows the hard work of Monique Brown, our academic advisor, and the emphasis that Mr. Pernetti puts on the balance of athletics and academics. I am very proud of all of our guys."
A total of 85 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better. Rutgers maintained a 3.06 grade point average, helping the BIG EAST Conference finish first with the most schools represented with seven teams.
