WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 9, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team collected 68 points en route to its fifth-place showing in a field of 27 teams at the 47th Annual Colonial Relays on Saturday, April 7 on the campus of William and Mary.
Senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) won the triple jump with a mark of 49’ .75” (14.56m), while freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) was victorious in the long jump, recording a leap of 24’ 7.25” (7.50m). Bostick was also third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6’7” (2.01m). Crawford competed in the 200-meter dash as well, placing sixth with a time of 21.58.
Tyrone Putman (Ft. Washington, Md.) placed third in the triple jump, posting a leap of 47’ 1.5” (14.36m). Also recording a third-place finish was freshman Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.03. Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) placed fourth in the event, running 11.15. Brown was fourth in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 21.49.
The 4x100-meter relay group of Brown, Douse, Crawford and Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.) finished third, clocking a time of 42.05. RU also scored points in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing seventh in 3:16.15. In the 4x800-meter relay, the Scarlet Knights placed seventh with Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.), Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.), Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) and Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.) running a time of 7:43.08.
Pat Gray (East Windsor, N.J.) placed sixth (fourth among collegiates) in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14’9” (4.50m), while Werner placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.70 to round out the scoring for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers will return to action on Friday, April 13, for the Metropolitan Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on Livingston campus.
