TAMPA, Fla. (March 19, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team opened its 2012 outdoor season, competing at the Bulls Invitational on the campus of USF on Friday, March 16 at USF Track and Field Stadium.
Freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.), coming off an indoor IC4A title in the long jump, placed first in the event with a mark of 24’ 11.75’ (7.61m).
Senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) finished runner up in the triple jump with a second-place distance of 50’10” (15.49m), while senior Tyrone Putman (Ft. Washington, Md.) took fifth with a mark of 47’10” (14.58m) Triple Jump Kevin Bostick 15.49 2nd place. Both were BIG EAST qualifying marks along with Crawford’s performance in the long jump.
On the track, senior Steve Werner (Newtown Sq, Pa.) placed fifth (fourth among collegiates) in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.69, followed by classmate Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) who finished 12th (ninth among collegiates) with a time of 10.91.
Werner also led a Rutgers contingent in the 200-meter, as he took third place (second among collegiates) with a time of 21.56 to help pace a group that included Brown in fifth place (fourth among collegiates) with a time of 21.73 and Crawford who ran 22.02 to finish ninth with a BIG EAST qualifying time.
Sophomore Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) placed fifth (fourth among collegiates)in the 400-meter, clocking a time of 48.32. The 4x100-meter relay group of Werner, Brown, Crawford and freshman D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed third in 41.44.
Rutgers will return to action on Saturday, March 24 for the Monmouth Invitational.
