BOSTON, Mass. (March 4, 2012) – Rutgers men’s track and field scored 35 points en route to a third-place team finish at the 2012 Indoor IC4A Championships on Sunday, March 4, at the Boston University Track Center.
Cornell won the event with 74 points, followed by Connecticut in second with 59 points.
The Scarlet Knights were led by balanced efforts in both the track and field events. Freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.), who has had a stellar rookie season so far, earned his first career IC4A title, winning the long jump with a mark of 25’.5” (7.63m). His performance tied the facility record.
Also securing an individual title was sophomore Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) who won the 500-meter, clocking a time of 1:02:08.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Caidenhead, Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.), Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) and Corey Crawford placed second, running a school-record time of 3:10.14. Brown also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.61.
Rutgers scored points in the triple jump with senior Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) adding a seventh-place showing. Bergo posted a leap of 48’4.75” (14.75m).
In the 4x800-meter relay, the Scarlet Knights took seventh as Ben Forrest (Jackson, N.J.), Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.), Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) and Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) ran a time of 7:33.81 to place seventh overall.
