    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (January 21, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team tallied 177 points and earned nine first-place finishes en route to winning the Navy Quad Meet on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Wesley Brown Field House.

    Rutgers posted victories in four field events and five on the track, including a pair of first-place performances from Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) who won the triple jump with an IC4A mark of 49’5.75” and finished first in the high jump, clearing a height 6’8.25”. Bergo also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 23’3.25” (IC4A), behind freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.). Crawford won the long jump with a mark of 23’4.75” (IC4A).

    Senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) won the shot put with a throw of 52’1” (IC4A) and placed sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 53’2.25”.

    On the track, sophomore Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) won the one-mile run, clocking a time of 4:12.67, an IC4A qualifier. Sophomore Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.) also competed in the mile, recording a time of 4:23.20.

    Senior Kevin Brown (Boonton, N.J.) won the 400-meter in an IC4A qualifying time of 49.18, while D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed fourth in 49.54. Brown also finished second in the 200-meter dash, running an IC4A time of 22.23.

    Sophomore Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) won the 500-meter, posting a time of 1:03.25, an IC4A qualifier and Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) finished third in 1:05.59.

    Another individual win was turned in by senior Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.) who placed first in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 22.23, an IC4A qualifier. Werner ran 7.13 in the 60-meter dash, finishing third.

    The Scarlet Knights also posted a victory in the 4x400-meter relay with Brown, Jordan, Crawford and Caidenhead combining to run an IC4A qualifying time of 3:18.27. The 4x800-meter relay team of Richburg, Burkholder, Farag and Purcell finished second, running a time of 7:49.68 (IC4A qualifier).

    Junior Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, N.J.) took third in the high jump, clearing a height of 6’6.25”, while senior Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.) was third in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:56.13, followed by Hamer Farag (Morristown, N.J.) in eighth with a time of 2:01.71.

    In the pole vault, Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) placed third with an IC4A height of 15’9”, while Pat Gray (East Windsor, N.J.) took fifth, clearing the bar at 14’9”.

    Sophomore Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) and freshman Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the 3,000-meter run with Banafato recording a time of 8:43.16, followed by DeFabio in 8:50.08. Freshman Mike Fritz (Whippany, N.J.) finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.69.

    Rutgers will return to action on Friday, Jan. 27 for the Metropolitan Championships at the NY Armory.
