PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 8, 2012) – Rutgers men’s and women’s track and field returned to action for the 2011-12 indoor season, hosting the Rutgers Indoor Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Indoor Bubble on Busch campus.
Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) won the long jump, recording a leap of 7.33 meters and Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, N.J.) was victorious in the high jump as he cleared a height of 2.03 meters. Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) also posted a victory, winning the pole vault as he cleared a height of 5.00 meters. He was followed by Tony Genco (Kailau, Hawaii) in second (4.35 meters) and Pat Gray (East Windsor, N.J.) in third (4.35).
James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.09 meters. Plummer was also second in the shot put, recording a throw of 15.74 meters.
Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) placed first in the 500-meter run, clocking a time of 1:02.81. Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) won the 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 6.93. Douse also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.41. Mike Fritz (Whippany, N.J.) was third in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 8.77. Ben Forrest (Jackson, N.J.) competed in the mile run, placing second with a time of 4:23.97. The Scarlet Knights went 1-2-3-4 in the 400-meter dash as Steve Werner (Newtown Sq, Pa.) won the event with a time of 48.11. Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) was second, clocking a time of 48.29, followed by Kevin Condal (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) in third (49.36) and Crawford in fourth (49.65).
Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) and Hamer Farag (Morristown, N.J.) finished second and third, respectively, in the 800 meter with Purcell running a time of 1:56.06, followed by Farag in 1:56.37. Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) was third in the 1,000 meter with a time of 2:31.81.
On the women’s side, Emily Vargas (Clark, N.J.) and Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) finished 1-2 in the women’s long jump as Vargas recorded a winning jump of 5.58 meters, while Ugboaja posted a mark of 5.40 meters. Vargas also competed in the high jump, earning a second-place finish with a height of 1.65 meters. Ugboaja posted a win of her own, as she took the top spot in the triple jump with a leap of 11.79 meters. Camille Handy (Scotch Plains, N.J.) was second in the triple jump (11.00 meters).
Meagan Robinson (Burlingon, N.J.) and Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) finished second and third, respectively in the 60-meter dash as Robinson clocked a time of 9.45, while Bradley finished in 9.50. Allison Payenski (Whitehous Station, N.J.) was second in the mile run with a time of 5:17.90. Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) won the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:21.81, followed by Stephanie Krausser (Wall, N.J.) who finished second in 2:22.53.
Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.88, while Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) took third in 25.33. In the 3,000-meter run, Brianna Deming (Webster, N.Y.) and Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) placed second and third with Deming running a time of 10:14.07 and Deckert finishing in 10:19.23.
The Rutgers men’s team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 13 for the NY Gotham Cup in Bronx, N.Y. while the women’s squad will compete against Princeton, Saint Joseph’s and St. John’s in Princeton, N.Y.
