PRINCETON, N.J. (December 10, 2011) – – Rutgers men’s track and field opened the 2011 indoor season on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the New Year’s Invitational in Jadwin Gym on the campus of Princeton University.
The Scarlet Knights won three events, led by Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.), who placed first in both the triple jump and high jump. Bergo won the triple jump with a distance of 49’ 7”/15.11m. He and Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, N.J.) finished 1-2 in the high jump as Bergo cleared a height of 6’ 10.75”/2.10m, while Scheideler posted a mark of 6’ 4.75”/1.95m.
Hamer Farag (Morristown, N.J.) was the other Scarlet Knight to win an event, placing first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.04. Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) was a very close second clocking a time of 2:35.05.
Rutgers posted a number of second-place performances as Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) finished second in the 600-meter run in 1:21.19. Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.) was second in the 300-meter dash, finishing in 35.13, while Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) took second in the long jump with a leap of 23’ 9.5”/7.25m.
Wrapping up the field events was Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) and James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.), who each placed third in their respective events. Wyckoff cleared a height of 15’ 3”/4.65m in the pole vault, while Plummer recorded a throw of 51’ 7.75”/15.74m in the shot put.
