PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 6, 2011) – Rutgers men’s track and field standouts Aaron Younger (Franklinville, N.J.) and Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) will represent the Scarlet Knights in the 400-meter hurdles and high jump, respectively, at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The event begins on Wednesday, June 8 and concludes on Saturday, June 11. Live stats and streaming of the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships can be viewed at www.ncaa.com.
“It’s a great achievement for us to have student-athletes competing for a National Championship,” said Rutgers head men’s track & field/cross country coach Mike Mulqueen. “We’re down to the final 24 in each event and to think of all the student-athletes that compete across Division I, to still be in this position is a tribute to Aaron and Adam, and to how hard they worked to get there.”
Younger will compete among a field of 24 student-athletes in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. (9:30 ET). The top eight finishers will then advance to the finals on Friday. Bergo will participate in the finals of the high jump on Friday at 6:45 p.m. (7:45 ET).
The Scarlet Knights have established a long standing tradition of qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, including last season’s record-setting total of seven participants. For Younger, it is his second-straight appearance at the national meet after qualifying last season in both the 400-meter hurdles and with the 4x400-meter relay team. Bergo is making his first appearance at the outdoor championships after qualifying for the indoor as a freshman in 2009.
